A series of powerful earthquakes hit western and left at least 62 people dead and dozens believed trapped under collapsed buildings. The strong quakes damaged many buildings, vehicles and boats in the coastal nation, with officials warning people in some areas on Tuesday to stay away from their homes because of a risk of more strong quakes. A substantial aftershock with a magnitude of 4.9 shook Ishikawa prefecture and its vicinity during the early hours, adding to the numerous aftershocks that ensued after a powerful magnitude 7.6 earthquake occurred two days ago.
