UGC unveils ‘Annual Capacity Building Plan’; aims to boost employee growth and skills

The University Grants Commission (UGC) inaugurated its maiden Annual Capacity Building Plan (ACBP) as a significant step towards advancing the growth and skill development of its workforce. Mamidala Jagdesh Kumar, UGC chairman, officially launched the plan on Tuesday, according to an official statement.

Established by the Government of India (GoI) through the Gazette of India on April 1, 2021, the Capacity Building Commission (CBC) played a crucial role in this initiative. Kumar highlighted that the UGC is the pioneering autonomous organisation to proactively engage in capacity-building planning for its personnel in collaboration with CBC, the statement mentioned.

Kumar underscored the UGC’s commitment to capacity-building efforts, stating that more than 600 UGC employees were enrolled on the iGot Karmayogi platform by September 15, 2023. In the first quarter of October to December 2023, 630 UGC employees completed over 4,500 courses, with each employee averaging seven courses. Throughout 2023, the UGC organised various offline/face-to-face training programmes covering topics such as Reservation in Services, Introduction to Emerging Technologies using AI, Overview of Data-Driven Decision Making (DDDM) using Higher Education data and relevant use cases, PFMS Awareness of General Financial Rules, Contract Management, Purchase of Services, RTI and more, the statement noted.

Kumar emphasised that the overarching goal of these initiatives is to build, develop, and enhance the abilities, talents, competencies, efficiency, and qualifications of UGC employees. This, in turn, aims to bolster their capacity to effectively contribute to the higher education system in India, it added.
