The Flip 5 with its all-new Flex hinge and Flex Window is the biggest update to Samsung’s flip-style foldable since the very origin of these devices. Needless to say, it’s got the world talking about foldables, once again, and even though competition has started to intensify, Samsung might just have its work cut out. Why? Well, because software.

The Flip 5’s upgraded Flex hinge folds the display internally in the shape of a tear-drop. The mechanism allows Samsung to finally incorporate a “gapless” design so the Flip 5 can fold completely flat.

Samsung says the new hinge makes the Flip 5 sturdier and more durable than the Flip 4. We found it quite solid during our hands-on time with it, but while that’s appreciated, we were actually quite blown away by the dimensions. The Flip 5 is noticeably more compact than the Flip 4 from every perceivable angle.

The inner display remains virtually unchanged, though it can get much brighter at up to 1,750nits up from the Flip 4’s 1,000nits capping.

Like the Flip 4, you can prop the Flip 5 at different angles and it stays put, rock solid. The phone is IPX8 rated.

The customary chip upgrade means you’re getting Qualcomm’s fastest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with the Flip 5. The battery capacity is same as before, aka 3,700mAh, but battery life should be better in this generation. Fast wired (25W) and wireless (15W) charging are available. Running the show is One UI 5.1.1 which is based on Android 13 with a guarantee of 4 major OS and up to 5 years of security updates.

The cover screen, which is 3.4-inch, is easily the most striking aspect of the Flip 5 after the hinge. It just gives you way more room to do stuff on it from running full apps to typing quick responses to text. You can do a lot more with the Flips cover display now

The Flip 5 has a body made of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and sides made of Armour Aluminum. It looks stunning, feels stunning.

The cameras on the Flip 5 are a do-over from last year. You get two 12MP cameras on the back and a 10MP selfie shooter.

The Flip 5 will come in two memory options, 8GB/256G for Rs 99,999 and 8GB/512GB for Rs 1,09,999, and a choice of Mint, Cream, Graphite, and Lavender. Samsung will offer online-exclusive Gray, Green, and Blue versions for those buying from its online store.
