Noida mall gangrape case: Scrap dealer booked under UP Gangsters Act, properties worth Rs 100 crore sealed

In response to a complaint filed by a 25-year-old woman alleging that she was gangraped in the parking lot of Garden Galleria Mall in Noida, Gautam Buddha Nagar Police have initiated measures against the accused, scrap dealer Ravi Nagar, alias Ravi Kana (45), and his accomplices.

The victim, who filed her complaint on December 30, cited threats from the accused as the reason for the delay in reporting the incident.

The victim narrated that she was enticed under the false pretense of a job. When they started blackmailing her through recorded videos of the incident, she approached police, resulting in the arrest of three individuals—Rajkumar Nagar, Azad Nagar, and Vikas—implicated in the case.

After this case, Gautam Buddha Nagar Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh directed the application of the UP Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, 1986, against Kana, his gang members, and even his wife. Anil, one of the accomplices, has already been arrested in connection with this incident.

The Indian Express quoted DCP (Greater Noida) Saad Miya Khan stating, “During the raids at Shri Krishna Steels and Prime Processing Tools Private Limited, two trucks laden with scrap, 20 empty trucks, 2 tractors, 3 motorcycles, 10 computers with printers, and other items were sealed. The estimated value of the sealed scrap material and other items is around Rs 100 crore. The other accused in the case will be arrested soon.”

Ravi Kana’s background reveals a past association with the late gangster Anil Dujana, engaged in illicit scrap dealings. Notably, Kana was provided police security following the murder of his brother Harendra Pradhan in February 2015. “After investigation, his security was removed on July 25, 2023,” said Ashok Kumar, ADCP (Greater Noida).

Officials have shed light on Kana’s modus operandi, involving the interception of trucks en route to construction sites. “They reaped undue financial benefits by selling rebar at the market price to traders. They would also bag contracts for scrap material at the desired rate by threatening owners of establishments,” The Indian Express quoted a senior police officer as saying.
